Question 1 to 8 out of 23
«I try asking my fellows about climate change all the time and the most amusing thing is that the answer is often "what's that?",when I make it a little bit simpler and ask global warming few have a small idea and others not to feel embarassed will reluctantly say they know. This is so challenging especially in a country where climate change impacts like famine and sudden rise in food stuffs up to almost 60% in less than two weeks and where those supposed to be responsible get so taken up by their private work. This leads me to ask some few questions;1.Which methods are you applying to increase wide spread awareness?2.How do you overcome bureacracy in government offices where you think you can get some support to drive the awareness?3.Are you allso seen as ambitious young people who are only dreaming?»
a) The direct problems that have been mentioned include the prolonged droughts in the North Eastern parts of the country commonly known as the Karamoja area and parts of the Eat of the country called the Teso region.
b) The basic solution that has been mentioned is to first return peace as the people there have for a long time been involve d in cattle rustling. It is also observed that climate change has escalated the problem cattle rustling and insecurity as the nomads keep moving from area to area in search of pasture and water which of course are had to get.
Also planting of trees as well as initiating irrigation and valley dams construction has been look at much as the most the said activities have not yet started.
c) Honestly, the News papers are kind of slow on the issue as this tends to be politicised and looking for poor performer which of course is always the politicians and the government.
d) No headline has caught my eye of late because as i told you most climate change impacts tend to be politicized and whenever horrible pictures are shown, they are given wrong interpretation, basing on politics.
e) CLIMATE CHANGE is the headline i would give an article because it sounds louder than other headlines i would give. This is because even when the word its self is said today, many tend to be still ignorant but it.However it is slowly but surely getting known to people.
I am for action not for talking a lot about emotions:
we are conducting a climate change petition to the COP15 Summit,we had different options of ensuring that the petition was delivered which was either giving it to our Ugandan delegation or sending it by mail. Much as both the two alternatives could work,i realised it could be much better if we are to hand the petition over we should as well use this opportunity to recruit as many young people as possible and this could be achieved if we became an example to them by bringing them together and organising something perticipative in nature. Thus i believe if we can organise a small function to hand over our petition coupled with presentations of drama, poems and all sorts of edutainament events plus a match and planting trees could help since personal participation could help in changing negative perceptions to building an army of young people capable to spread the struggle.
My response would be precise. I would tell everyone to personally join the fight and try to make a change since everyone is contributing and everyone can mitigate the causes.
