And don't forget to turn off the standby of your computers and televisions! that's really stupid, when we loose energy with things we on't use! Ayla from Berne

b) They are true. It seems so easy to do something against climate change and still it is difficult.

Asked by: Colegio San Martin | Kantonsschule Alpenquai 5La

a) There is much talk about Copenhagen, whether the politicians will achieve something or not.

b) Switzerland is acutely aware of the threat of climate change. In Switzerland the immediate impact of temperature rises on the human population will come from the mountains and their cover of snow and ice. In the last few decades the temperature in Europe's higher mountain regions has increased by one degree Celsius. Research shows that the trend is continuing.

Human settlements will be affected by landslides and floods. The all-important tourism industry will suffer as the areas available for winter sports shrinks more and more. Agriculture will also be hit.

Climate change is a cause for concern both economically and socially.

These are the projects we will realise here in Peru. What projects will you realise? Please tell us about them. Maybe they will inspire us to do more! 1 Cleaning the lake: Nearby there is lake which is contaminated by the chemicals from paint they use in their art workshops, also from some plastics that are thrown there by some neighbours, etc. With the support of the science department, we are carrying out a research about how polluted the lake is. They plan to, based on that info, prepare intervention.

o Promotion of Hydroponic plants: Usually people don’t have space for a garden or to grow their own vegetables (small ones, like tomatos). Hydroponic plants can be cleaner and the grow process isn’t difficult. Also, the girls from this group want to make flash mobs in the street, all related to the environment.

o Sensitivization with kids: Applying surveys to people from La Molina district, the boys and girls from this project want to show that knowledge about taking care for the environment is not being replicated from parents to children. With that base, they want to do workshops and presentations with little ones, to guide them in good green practices. Photos, videos and posters are included.

o Trash disposal in Los Olivos: This district is very far away from the school and has some troubles with the disposition of garbage, the timing when the trash truck takes it up, and lack of importance from the neighbours. Kids from this group want to talk at a policy making level, taking with the district and trying to persuade them to have more rounds of the trash truck rounds.

o Eco-efficient trips in your car: Almost all kids get to the school because their parents drive them there, this has some problems such as the excessive CO2 emissions made by each car and traffic in the mornings. The kids from the group plan to propose a taking up strategy (to have one car each day to pick up kids that live nearby each other) that would reduce the proportion of cars going to the school from 5 to 1, and to direct the iniciative to buy a school bus. The money could be collected in one kermes (an event with many activities).

We are looking forward to hear about your ideas!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We had a climate day in our school. This was a big success.

Industries that pollute the environment have to pay high taxes. And if it is “too much” it is prohibited.
