First person:

1) The world and especially the communication medias are exaggerating!

2) I always turn the light off when I leave a room and I stopped using a car.

3) The glaciers will melt and climate refugees will come to Switzerland.

Second person:

1) Of course it is a serious topic! We already see the consequences!

2) It is very difficult to do something against it. I do not want to miss my car but if there exists more eco-friendly cars I’ll buy one!

3) The implications will be everywhere and I can not really think of a special one for Switzerland. The glaciers will melt and the whole world will be concerned.

2) For my familiy, it is normal that we try to use as less electricity as possible; we do not have a car and we never use the plane for travelling.

3) Glaciers will melt and nature and diversity of species will change.

Fourth person:

1) I do not know – I can not judge about it! The period of time is too little.

2) I can not do anything – it is already too late! So I just enjoy my life.

3) The things that will come just come…

Fifth person:

1) It is very serious and I already see changes in my own lifetime!!

2) I do not have a car. I always go by train.

a) In the newspaper there was a short summary of an article in the magazine "science". It said that shrimps had a problem with climate change because the date when the new generation of shrimps hatches out is determined by the water temperature. Because of the warming of the oceans the shrimps possibly hatch before their main nourishment (an alga) has grown.

b) The article did not propose any solution to the problem. Obviously, to stop climate change would be the solution.

c) There are very few articles about climate change, in the newspaper I searched this was the only one and it was very short.

a) I sometimes feel angry for example when I see people in cars that waste so much fuel, but the anger is not very strong. Maybe this is because otherwise I would be angry with practically everybody I see all the time. I am also angry with the politicians who do not have the courage to take radical steps and who give a low priority to climate protection.

When I see reports about hurricanes or the sea level rise, I may feel responsible, but not really bad, because there are so many around you that are responsible with you. And a part of me is also indifferent to climate change, I think everybody has a bit of the attitude "why do something when nothing's happened to us so far". This attitude must sound very mean to people who have already directly suffered from climate change.) Especially anger and sadness. On one side we are very angry that there are a lot of people who just don’t want to understand it and who try to explain the climate change with other reasons. Sadness because it is almost impossible to “wake up” the people who could have a lot of influence as for example politicians. They could do so much!

anger people who don’t want to believe it and who are indifferent

responsibility we all have to take the responsibility, it is about our future!

hope that all the people will see the problem before it is too late

and react

indifference you have to wake the indifferent people up

b) I feel the good emotions stronger about climate change. For example when I read about projects of the ETH (university in Zurich) to reduce CO2-emissions or when I am doing myself something against climate change. Maybe it is natural to focus on the positive and to suppress the negative, this may be the reason why I feel the good emotions stronger.

First I would mainly address the people of the rich countries as they are responsible for climate change. I would ask them to really think about the things they could do and why they do not do them. Because everybody knows that travelling much by car is bad for the climate, but they continue to take the car to go shopping, whereas some very few people take the bicycle. But if you ask them why they take the car everybody has his answer ready. I would explain why 95% of these answers are pretexts. It is possible to do it, so do it. It does not matter if you are the only one, then you can be even more proud to be a good example for the others. Who else has the power to change something in this world if not the people who live in it. In all the western countries with democracies the citizen is part of every political decision taken, because he elected the politicians. The rich countries are the ones able to react, if they do not, there is no excuse and they will have to admit that they did not want to react.

Climate change is a serious subject because it concerns the whole world and our future. We all should be aware of the consequences we have caused and we will cause if we immediately don’t stop to reduce the emission of CO2.

Now it is your turn to compile the questions 5 until 8. Carefully consider the best way of posing the questions in order to gain the best possible insight into the everyday views of your partner class.

b + c) In terms of “financial situation” or “job” yes, it completely depends on us which job we will have later. Also in terms of climate change we have the responsibility, but not the whole. If we talk about climate change, the whole world is involved.

b) They have a lot in common, because if we protect our climate, we immediately protect us and all the other people over the world. We avert flood, hurricanes and tsunamis. This has a lot to do with solidarity: if we avert this kind of natural disaster we don’t just do something for us, but also for the other people –who also might are more concerned of the consequences-.

Once again, it’s your turn to present the questions 19 until 23: Compile 5 additional questions, suitable for people in your partner class to use, for example, in an interview with people on the street or people they know. Questions you really want to learn more about in order to get a good overall picture of the situation in your partner class.
