Ugandan landslides

Class: Makerere University | By: mugisha

The beginning of this month has not been the best here as more than 300 people have been killed in landslides as well as the entire villages buried under the mud. The government is trying to relocate the remaining villages as it is predicted that some more landslides may occur in areas around mt Elgon. Other districts have suffered the same prloblem especially in the Southwestern parts of Kabale and Kisoro.  Questions have been looming on whether the landslides are caused by the massive tree cutting on the slopes of hilly areas. What is true however is that there was little land cover that would have atleast prevented great damage.
