This project is going to impact very positively to the students because the children come from a town that has been adversely affected by climate change. Lake Nakuru ,one of the largest lakes in the country is reeling in the effects of drying up due to human activities in the Mau Forest thus depleting the waters of the many rivers that flow into the lake.I do believe that on the onset of this project we are going to come up with solutions on saving the huge population of the Flamingo birds and the wildlife around the Lake Nakuru National Park. How else can we supplement human activites especially on families who depend so much on firewood and charcoal for their daily use?

I like the idea about solar stoves very much. But wouldn't it be very difficult to convince the people there that it's much better to use them then to use charcoal and firewood? It would be difficult to get a solar stove for everyone and make the people use them. But there must be a solution like that otherwise there won't soon be any flamingos anymore. What do you think would the people accept the most? How do you convince them to use alternative energies?

The tree planting campaign is taking root in my country real fastLatest figures released place Kenya as one of the frontrunners to making this a successThe country started a massive tree planting that saw 140 million trees planted last year. This was in response to the threat of global warming and the subsiding of water supplies. The campaign headed by NOBEL PEACE PRIZE WINNER Wangari Maathai targets 7billion trees by the climatic change conferenceto be held in Copenhagen,Denmark in December. It is said that to invest in our environment is to invest in our future.Kenya we need to do something very fast because currently we have a forest cover of 1.7% against the internationally accepted cover of 10%Under UNEP,this initiative of tree planting is going to go a long way in helping curb all these problems.

Thanks Julia, those were very lovely incentives.indeed Lake Nakuru is very special,a rare beauty and above all, home to thousands of bird species.we need to protect the nature that is within this lake.
The population depends on trees for fuel because of availability but are ignorant of the looming danger.to sensitise them means to give them an alternative. yes, solar stoves can be the best due to the great sunshine we recieve.i welcome that project idea to also save our forests, lakes and birds/wildlife.

Hello Betty, Lake Nakuru sounds to be a very special and beautiful place. Let's hope HotStuffChillOut can help to protect the flamingos and the wildlife of this National Park! You say people depend so much on firewood and charcoal for their daily use? Are there also alternatives? Would people accept solar stoves? Solar energy will become more and more important -what do you think about that? Julia
