my footprint

Class: Kantonsschule Hohe Promenade (2) | By: Jonas Pfenninger

Every day I travel more than 30 kilometers by train which contributes to my ecological footprint. But almost everything in my life needs energy and space to plant the resources it is made of. For example the clothes I wear, the food, of books that we read in school.  The ecological footprint of Switzerland is with 5.1 ha per person much higher than the average (2.2 ha). I think everybody can contribute to change this, it is not only the big companies. People waste energy,  although they know about climate change. So they are simply not aware of the consequences of their behaviour or they don't care. But I think it is stupid to leave negative traces behind on this planet, just because you did not know about them. So we have to inform ourselves about the resources that are hidden behind the things we use. I think in Switzerland we can do very much for climate protection, for example not travel by airplane or by car, but by train and buying products with a CO2 label. These are things that everybody can do but I think they make a big difference. (Jonas)
