Corey Crockett and Andrew Schreyack Climate change is a change in weather patterns over a long period of time. It can influence natural disasters, making them stronger and more dangerous effects such as tornadoes and hurricanes. In addition, polar ice caps are melting causing a future rise in sea levels. Snow is a major weather effect in Central New York. Storms and blizzards are often occurrences in Syracuse. Global Warming may change this, changing the normal pattern of snowfall. Onondaga Lake is a lake in Central New York. It is known for being one of the most polluted lakes in the United States. Many chemicals, including the dangerous mercury, were dumped into the lake. These chemicals have settled into the sediment and are very harmful to the surrounding environment and wildlife. The issue remains with the underwater soil. After it is removed from the bottom of the lake, which will take a lot of work, time and money, where should it be stored? The clean-up will soon be in effect, with a goal to help human health and the state of the environment. Our feelings about climate change are mixed. Although we do not accept the former treatment to lakes such as Onondaga, we are sometimes indifferent. We do make attempts to use “green” products, but because it will not change the environment for a very, very longtime, our actions may not matter. Also, some evidence shows this may be natural. Although we may make decisions that possible harm the earth, like polluting Onondaga Lake, other actions may be a part of human life, like cars.
