The huge yet small community of TCV is yet again making efforts to keep our school environment neat and clean. though it might seem a little childish to write down the names of the students who loiter in the campus by the students in the my climate group yet in a way it has given its own share if contribution. As its not at all easy to make all the students ranging from montessori classes to the senior's to understand the impact their individual actions have on the environment hence i think what measures we have adopted now are the best for the timebeing. as there really is no need to be so strict when the students just due to the fear of getting caught loitering have significantly gone down.it's a good starting afterall. and even the school administration is heavily involved in this.

Is human activity heating up the planet?

i'm tenzin shakya belonging to upper tcv school and i'm very much glad to participate in this my climate project.here i want to share brief imformation about thre changes hitted by human activity. "Climate change is the only thing that I believe has the power to fundamentally end the march of civilization as we know it, and make a lot of the other efforts that we're making irrelevant and impossible," as said by former US President Bill Clinton at the 2006 World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.
Today there is little doubt that climate change is occurring, and that negative consequences are beginning to emerge. Many observers point to the increasing number of severe storms, floods, and heat waves in recent years as indicators of changing climatic conditions. The vast majority of related scientific research confirms a direct relationship between human activity, the rising levels of greenhouse gases (GHG) in the atmosphere, and climate change in the form of global warming. The Earth's average temperature has risen by around 0.6 °C over the past century years due to human activity. Although it may not sound like much, this slight change has already altered rain and snowfall patterns, and has resulted in a rise in sea levels and the gradual retreat of most non-polar glaciers. the rate of climate change is increasing. If there was one ultimate energy source to break the world’s addiction to fossil fuels, expert Robert Hirsch says the world would be using it by now.

While wind turbines and solar panels remain the popular symbols of a future clean-energy economy, scientists and engineers are busy cooking up a plethora of new technologies to save and produce energy.

Finding alternatives to climate-damaging oil and coal energy is all about diversification. None of the proposed "climate solutions" could stabilize greenhouse gas emissions or meet the world's energy demands alone. But taken together, they could be important pieces of the puzzle.

A first step together

In the next 1000 years, the thermometer won't fall. This because of too much CO2 in the air and we...

In the next 1000 years, the thermometer won't fall. This because of too much CO2 in the air and we can't do anything against it. Even if there were no CO2 discharge anymore, nothing would change. All this is because the temperature is changing even slower than the CO2 concentration in the air. This global heating tends to result in a higher sea level and this is very dangerous to many countries which have access to the sea.If we continue living like this, at the end of this century half of the people will be hungry. All this because the average temperatures are rising dramatically. Many of the nature phenomena will be destroyed, just to give an example: Almost all of the glaciers have lost from 1864-2005 half of their size. If we continue and don’t do anything to avoid this, the next generations will just see pictures of the glaciers. We think it’s a big problem and every person has to do something. We hope that the people in a few years won’t suffer from the fact that we haven’t done anything. In our newspapers the get-together in Washington is mentioned. Agents from all over the world will talk about the climate. In the center of the discussion is the reduction of the greenhouse gases. They want to extend the validity of the Kyoto pact and have the promise that the USA and China enter in to the pact which means, that they give the best to reduce the greenhouse gases. It’s a problem which is always in the newspapers but often there are local events which are more in front. We are angry about the fellow men who don’t care about the climate change. We don’t feel any responsibility as a single person about this. Every person thinks the other one should look after the climate change. But it doesn’t solve the problem because every person has to begin personally himself. We hope that our environment wil get better as our world administration can find a solution for the problem. It isn’t indifferent for us what’s happening to our world, but we always want that someone else makes the first step and begins with the change. Our feeling is anger, because we feel responsible about the environment and don’t want to destroy the world. So we are angry about the people who don’t care about the problem and also a bit about us because we always think the others should make the first step. At the end nobody does it. We have to change our polluting habits. Otherwise our children will live in a destroyed world. Millions of people will lose their place to live, because of the sea-level rise. But we can change the world all together. What do you think about our ideas? How could we do a first step together?

Hi i am Passang Tsekeyof Upper Tibetans ChildrensVillage . Thanks for your valuable concern.I agree with you .The world is running short of time to save our planet from global warming. It is now or never. Each responsible man on this earth should do something to stop the looming ecological disaster. Here I wish to share a heartening news from India, state of Uttarakhand. I have come across a man who is nicknamed as Tree man. He has been planting tree for the last 50 years. By now he has already planted five hundred thousand trees - mainly Oak, cedar, Rodendendron and fruit trees. He did this after his dear father passed away suddenly in his early life to forget the pangs of separation. He treat the trees like his children and does not plant trees during night. He says that planting trees in the night will disturb the sleep of other trees. He now has grown a whole jungle singlehandedly and the villagers think that he is a mad man to do such a hard work without any personal gains. His ultimate wish is to be buried in his own forest and plant a sapling on his grave. He also pray hard to be reborn fast so that he can go on planting trees. In case we motivate and bring awareness about the global warming in the people in the world, even a single sincere person can make difference in the world.

«if we have a positive attitude towards the environment (for eg. thinking of earth as our...

«if we have a positive attitude towards the environment (for eg. thinking of earth as our home). Then automatically we will show great respect towards nature.»The headlines written as INDIVIDUAL CAN MAKES A HUGE DIFFERENCE IN CLIMATE CHANGE BY CHANGING ONE'S LIFESTYLE has impressed me most because if each individual changes his or her lifestyle by pacing towards low carbon economy then in a whole we can protect our earth. For many reasons this year’s winter vacation has been one of a kind and of course I cant hold myself in writing about days I spent in Bhutan with my family . We had to stay at the border place called Phuntsok ling for two days and get our documents corrected. Finally our journey started in Bhutan . As we entered BHUTAN, we know that we are in a totally different country .. .. The hush , rush , and noise starts to fade away and one can hear the blowing of air and view the eternal beauty of mother nature .. Yes we are in BHUTAN …It was not before when we reached the capital city Thimbhu , my brother was calling it as Untouched Civilization and to some extent I also agreed because we could hardly see any buildings , houses and structures around , rather its filled with trees all around . Thimbhu , the capital city , even though not as huge like Delhi is well structured ..It is the place where you will find the different departments of the government of Bhutan . Incidentally the guide of our tour was my brother with his lonely planet book on Bhutan. Almost all the things about this country are good except for the food . It is expensive and in addition one can't have much choices because of scarcity of vegetables . The food called Eama Dasai is considered very delicious but for me it got my tongue burnt and I also had problem with my stomach the next day .. So , yes, we are in Bhutan for pilgrimage . For that we have to go to another place called PARO about 35 km from Thimbhu. When we reached Paro valley , I was spell bound by the magnificent beauty of the mother nature, presented before us . It looked just like the places of TIBET which I have noticed in magazines and in television .. Such was the beauty that indeed I felt that our environment is really the greatest asset we have and we should be preserving it . This place is known for ancient creations of buddhist stupas and temples. We woke up early in the morning next day as we have to climb up the mountain to get the holy blessings of site called TAKTSANG( tiger’s nest) where GURU RINPOCHE( GURU PADMASAMBHAVA) is said to have flown on the back of tigress in the 8th century and meditated. Since it’s the first time we were going there , we don’t have much idea about the time even though its written in lonely planet that its about one hour way but for us it took nearly about three hours to reach there . On the way we met a bhutanese family , same destination as ours. Incidentally we became good friends and also had lunch together. When we got near to taktsang there is huge water fall and I thought that Guru Rinpoche must have taken the drinks from there and felt his choice of place to meditate , excellent . The holy site is also known to fulfill the wishes of the pilgrims . So I wished and prayed for the happiness of all the sentient beings( Do wa rik duk ) , long life of His Holiness The Dalai Lama, good result of my students in the upcoming board examination and something for myself. . Over all i really feel good to have visited BHUTAN as i now know that there are countries which really care for their land and preserves it with discipline and with proper rules and regulation . i just wonder when can india take such steps. i do know that india is a huge country so may be it will take some time . hoping for the best . guess what - just take a look at this very beautiful country , BHUTAN.

to be really truthful , i have never ever wished or took notice of this day " World Environment Day" until now perhaps because of ignorance or lack of knowledge . And i feel so lucky that i am not too late to have realized the importance of this day which reminds us of the most precious asset we have right now and that is our mother nature, our environment . Until this year i have never ever given a single moment of thought that by riding the motor bike somehow adds to the rise in CO2 gas levels and ofcourse to the greatest environment challenge of the century "GLOBAL WARMING". But lucky me , i have now started to think on it . Flashing back , i have made use of bike many times when i could have simply made without it . so on this day , i have a resolution dedicating to my mothe earth and that is i will use public transport as much as possible and walk as much as possible . so this is my message to all the youngsters " try this, you actually feel much smarter walking by the road rather than riding on a bike"
