World environment day reminds us of the fact that the greatest asset we have is our environment and nothing else . On this occasion we along with Tibetan Welfare Department organised a painting competition in our school for the senior section students from class nine to twelve . Around 30 students took part in the competition . The theme of the competition was " EARTH IN 22nd CENTURY" . The participating students with different mentality drew on different aspects , where as some saw the positive impacts like use od renewable sources of energy in about hundred years whereas others predicted the dangerous consequences human greed on our environment .

Yangjyi is my name, I came from Tibet in year 2000. My main purpose to come here is to study and to learn my own culture and tradition. In Tibet, I am from U-Tsang province. We had opportunity to allow to go to school. unfortunately, fees are really expensive and all the subjects are in Chinese. However, its much better that I flew to India. We had to walk for one month through mountains: We walked at night and slept at daytime due to the shortage of foode we haven't eaten food for few days. Some of my mates were injured but with grace of my brother I am save from it. It was so much complicated when I passed the snowy Mountains. At last we reached at our last destination to Dharamsala. And got very nice blessing from His Holiness the Dalai LAma and then we were all sent to Upper T.C.V School. I am really happy in our school. There is only one and half year left. Now I have participated in Climate clubt with lots of Mission. First is that due to the Modernization our green mother earth becomes black. Secondly, I am really interested to know about Environmental Condition, Thirdly, To make better relationship with foreigners to share informations to each other, Fourthly to maintain relationship with global people. We need to spread more about Environment as well as our country also. I am really glad to being a membership in this beautiful club. I am really happy to do lots of activities. here we did lots of activites in schools, we made programms etc. Hope you all are also doing there. Good luck!!!! Yangkyi

awareness

Reasons for participating in this club: Ever since the environment of life on this earth there has...

Reasons for participating in this club: Ever since the environment of life on this earth there has been a continuous development since from the early stone age to the present modern days. Starting from the discovery of fire, practise of agriculture and then to the invention of wheels. And with this slow pace of development, acting as a initiation stage, the natural environment started to degrade. Not only this, with the development of science and technology the pace of development led to the present days with huge challenges like Climate Change, environmental pollution and much more. So myself Tenziin, currently doing +I PCB Science and being a disciple of HIs Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama and more relevantly staying in this unique planet earth I find it very important to preserve our mother nature from getting exploited. Thus, taking this matter into consideration, I have participated in this Club with a firm aim to create awareness among the students as much as possible. Especially regarding the environment and how our slight change in daily life activities can avoid the mass of unknown problems awaiting in the future, Tenzin

Hello!! My name is Kalsang. I came from Tibet in year 1998 and my previous school was S.O.S TCV Gopalpur. No I join in Scienve stream so I am here in Upper TCV School. I love learning facts. I want to become a dentist. I join my climate Club which work for global climate as we act locally and think globally. I joint in it because I want to do something that is very helpful to all people. Our Climate Club educates students on Global Warming, atmosphere, pollution. We turn unseless things into useful ones like juice packets into teaching aids, plant flowers in used big plastic pots. etc. I am happy with what I am doing now. We keep our environment clean. We have many plans what we want t o do. We distributed CFC light bulbs in every home in our school. So that we can save some energy. I wish our climate club could contribute a lot toward our mother earth and I wanted to thank all of you for supporting us. Thank you and Have a nice life!

Following the Chinese occupation of Tibet in 1950 and His Holiness the Dalai Lama's flight to...

Following the Chinese occupation of Tibet in 1950 and His Holiness the Dalai Lama's flight to India, it was quickly apparent that one of the most critical needs of Tibetan refugees was finding a means to care for the many children who had been orphaned or separated from their families during the arduous escape from their homeland. His Holiness promptly recognised that the future of Tibet and its people depended upon the younger generation. With this in mind and out of concern for the miserable conditions under which so many children were suffering, His Holiness proposed that a centre for destitute children be established in Dharamsala.

On 17 May 1960, fifty-one children arrived from the road construction camps in Jammu, ill and malnourished. Mrs. Tsering Dolma Takla, the elder sister of His Holiness, volunteered to look after them. Initially these children were assigned to members of the Dalai Lama's entourage, but before long the Government of India offered its assistance, renting Conium House to accommodate all the children together. At that time, the centre was under the name "Nursery for Tibetan Refugee Children."

Originally, the Nursery for Tibetan Refugee Children provided only the basic care for children. When they reached the age of eight, they were sent to other residential schools established by the Government of India. But eventually this arrangement could not be continued, as all the residential schools became filled to capacity. This left the Nursery to find a solution to problem of overcrowding. Thanks to the foresight and courage of Mrs. Jetsun Pema, the then Director, it was decided that the Nursery had to grow and expand despite many apparent obstacles.

http://www.tcv.org.in/images/school/utcv-large.shtml A massive reorganization plan was set into motion. This included seeking help from private donors and international aid organizations. A period of hectic construction work ensued to provide for more houses and classrooms for children. The Nursery slowly toook the shape of a small village with its own school and homes.This Children's village is what we call today as the Upper TCV School at Dharamsala.This children's Village, being the first, is also called as the Main TCV School. At present, TCV School Dharamsala has;

No. of Children

1915 (1770 Boarders & 145 Day Scholars)

No. of Dedicated Staff

236 + 19 Others

No. of Old People

91

Total

2261 (As on 30 June 2009)
