Clean Up campaign in Tegeta secondary school

Hello Hot stuff family, On the 10th October 2009 we conducted a Clean Up campaign in our school Tegeta secondary to raise awareness to our fellow students on the importance of keeping the environment clean and safe. The event involved cleaning school premises in and outside the school campus and collecting all forms of solid waste from plastic bags, drinking water bottles, papers, leaves falling from trees to sweeping the classes. The event was very successful as we were also joined by the media people from ITV and Eastt Africa Television-Channel 5 where we also did interviews and encouraged other young people around East Africa to keep their enevironment CLEAN!

Students in Tegeta proposed the following as an action towards realization of climate protection project and activities that will increase awareness about climate change problem in Tanzania:

Debates about climate change

Students in Tegeta proposed introduction of inter school debates competition among secondary schools in Tanzania to educate young people about climate change.

Tree planting

Tree planting in Tegeta Sala Sala area (Mtongani), an area that has been severely degraded due to extensive stone quarry. They also proposed to plant trees in their school premises as demonstration to students about importance of planting trees in capturing CO2.

World Environment Day Commemoration in Dar es Salaam

In commemorating the World Environment Day in 2009, on 5th June 2009 Tanzania Youth Environmental Network (TAYEN) and Vodacom Foundation conducted clean up event at Kigamboni Ferry station. The event involved 120 secondary students from Mbezi Beach, Makongo and Tegeta, students from University of Dar es Salaam and Sokoine University of Agriculture and staff from Vodacom. In the event participants collected solid waste, cleaned up Ferry station on both sides, installed waste management signboards with environmental education messages and distributed 20 Large Liter bins that were distributed at Ferry station to minimize haphazard waste dumping

My name is Rutta Evodius Hot Stuff Chill Out project Coordinator in Tanzania. I am writing to you to discuss with you on how we can collaborate through Hot Stuff Chill Out project to launch a campaign to save Mountain Kilimanjaro the Roof of Africa from global warming. The mountain has been experiencing rapid decrease of its ice and snow due to melting as a result of increase in temperature, not only that they have been serious Wildfire on top of the Mountain that have been occuring in the last couple of years.

Me and the classes here in Tanzania came up with an idea of launching a campaign to create awareness and attention to the World on saving this World Heritage that has been one of the Key Tourist attraction in my country Tanzania.

I have some ideas on how we can collaborate with you guys in Switzerland to make this campaign a reality. What ideas do you have? So I am looking forward to hear from you soon.

We are expecting the project will help us understand how to stop increase of green house gases and carbondioxide and learn from others what they do to stop this. Our country is very special because it has peace and we have not experienced any conflicts among ourselves and this enables us to do our daily activities We love to live here because it is so PEACEFUL.
