09. Looking back and thinking ahead

Asked by: St. Mary's Secondary School | Colegio America

a) Imagine it would be possible to turn back the clock a hundred years. What do you think we would do differently?

b) We are naturally not able to turn the clock back, but we can learn from the past. What kind of information does the past reveal?

a) There are many things we'll change, first we would increase the education about our environment because, like we know, in that time people wasn't warned about contamination and climate changed, like we do now, they didn't even know about this type of problems, so caring about our environment in that time, could stop what we see now. For example, creating colleges that focus on this type of problems could be a way.

Other thing we would do is promote social conscience about what could happen if we don't take this seriously.

Finally we would recycle and reuse plastic, paper and glass since those days, so the natural resources wouldn't be waste.

b) We can learn from the past many things like:

• Have an environmentally conscious: - Recycling - Preserving our natural resources

• Teach respect our planet: - Do not throw garbage into the streets - Taking care of our flora and fauna

• Not to keep silent when there are environmental violations: - Protest (if necessary against the abuses of companies)

• To be part of change: - Joining to environmental groups to do direct action
