«What really is happening is that apart from the great Mau water tower there have been numerous illegal allocations of forest land for settlement and logging og trees.At first many people didnt realize the effects of their actions.It started as a slow process with people clearing land they had bought from the government for settlement and others for getting firewood.The government did not heed the advice given and even when Wangari Maathai won the Nobel Peace Prize it was coz of her efforts to save the Mau and other smaller forests.Nobody wanted to hear what her fight was all about.I still remember when one day she talked about the dangers of what would happen.She said that our country would soon run dry and we may end up being a desert but nobody heeded her warnings.It is now happenning and now most parts of the country is dry and arid.No rains and most of us are farmers.The government has also not taken measures like irrigation for watering our plants.Now without rain and water,there is no crops which can grow. Right now as I mail you this we are having power cuts each week three times.This has been done because we have depended so much on dams to produce electricity.Now without water no electricity can be generated.The water levels of our dams has drastically dropped.We also have water rationing in our houses.We cannot recieve water continously in our taps the whole wek.For instance I recieve water only on Mondays and Wednesdays.I have to have storage containers for water for the remaining days of the week.Can you picture that.I am even so fortunate to have the two days.Others dont even have a drop.They walk for days to look for water,Now if there is no water that means there is no food.We have reported cases of deaths due to starvation.It is a time bomb ticking away.All of us are reallyy struggling to meet the cost of living especially food.It has become so expensive to have decent meal thet most of us have resorted to only one meal a day.Even for someone like me who is working and I do have a source of income it is continually becoming a struggle but as I have said I am far much better.Children and the old people are the worse hit.Thats why we are trying to come in and help. The Red Cross have really tried their best in helping but the numbers have become so overwhelming that they have reached their limit.Right now they too are crying our for help to be able to reach the millions of Kenyans who are starving .We would like to reduce the number that is depepnding so much on the Red Cross.Julia it is very sad and really pathetic.I am just calling out on anyone who can give help to do so.Immediately we are through with feeding then we embark on finding out a permanent solution so that we do not face the same situation ever again.We would also like our people to start a project be it solar powered,geo or bio supported so that we can carry out our farming on renewable sources of energy.»

We need each other in this world and if the problem is going to be felt in one part of the world then it is going to affect the whole world. Leaders have to take a step in handling climate change with the communities.Young people like us should also be given a chance to suggest solution that affect them as the next people to be there.Sensiblisation like through radio,media,books,workshops should be done.||The emotion strongly felt is love and responsibilty for the universe because this is where we live and we also expect others to live in many years to come.||A kenyan inventor has invented a cheap solar cooker.It is made from two cardboards which use reflective foil and black paint to maximise absorption of solar energy.To retain the heat and water,the cooking pot is covered with something transparent.The temperatures can reach upto 80degrees.The cooker can be used for sterilising water,boiling or baking food.The inventor hopes it can help alot in making solar cooking widespread in the developing world as opposed to the cutting down of trees for fuel.As many as 2million people the world over rely on firewood as their primary source of fuel.It would reduce the cutting down of tree causing deforestation.||Mankind has indeed dealt himself a blow.This is in the name of the Mau Forest.Once a serene and beautiful forest now it no longer can be admired.The precious quietness is no moreTheir is all kinds of pollution,if not from noise then from smoke.Charcoal burning and logging has taken root so much that it scares to think of the consequences.The once beautiful and quiet forests have been destroyed beyond recognitionThe ozone layer is being destroyed and the effects that come with global warming can now be felt greatly.Water catchment areas have been depleted and now problem of water for our wildlife and the locals is the order of the day.We must come together and stop this menace because our children need this forest in future.Mau forest is a clear manifestation of the cruelty of human to nature.Lets save the mau forest since it is the livelihood of many.Junior||The tree planting campaign is taking root in my country real fastLatest figures released place Kenya as one of the frontrunners to making this a successThe country started a massive tree planting that saw 140 million trees planted last year.This was in response to the threat of global warming and the subsiding of water supplies.The campaign headed by NOBEL PEACE PRIZE WINNER Wangari Maathai targets 7billion trees by the climatic change conferenceto be held in Copenhagen,Denmark in December.It is said that to invest in our environment is to invest in our future.Kenya we need to do something very fast because currently we have a forest cover of 1.7% against the internationally accepted cover of 10%Under UNEP,this initiative of tree planting is going to go a long way in helping curb all these problems.
