- 01. Interview
- Our Answer: David:1:Climate change is a bomb waiting to explode. At the current rate of these weather changes then soon we may not tell the difference between night and day.
2:In my country we shall soon get to see the greatest human-animal conflict.most of the areas affected are forests which have been the source of water for the locals but now its a fight between man and beaste.I fear to think of the consequences.
Susan1change is the difference in weather patterns that creates alot of confusion in how we used to live.this has been brought about by so many factors that have brought about less trees therefore less rain and finally less water.Gases are being released into the air bringing pollution and destruction of the ozone layer. It is just very dangerous.
2:The consequences are already there with people and communities who rely on farming activites now starving.they cant have enough rain and the weather is all mixed up and confusing so the forcasts are not giving the right time to start farming. There is the risk of less food and finally we shall be begging for food reliefs which previously were available.
Junior:1:My understanding of climate change is when there is a great difference in climatic conditions. This has affected the weather conditions bringing changes to everything that was being done especially farming.
2:The effects have been bad especially in the Mau Forest area.Lack of adequate rain has made wildlife to migrate in thousands to neighbouring countries. This is a minus for my country because one of our sources of foreign money is tourism. Now with no animals for tourists to come and see I can forsee the danger of my country becoming poorer and poorer because of a drop in foreign currency.
- 02. Search the local newspapers of your country for articles about climate change.
- Our Answer: 1.EXPLOSIVE MAU DOSSIER2.ALARM OVER MAU DESTRUCTION3.RIVERS,LAKES DRY OUT AS CATCHMENTS ARE IN DANGER4.RECOMMENDATIONS ON HOW TO SAVE THE MAU.5.OVER 25% OF MAU GRABBEDThese are some of the headlines that were seen in our newspapers this morning. That is how serious the Mau Forest issue has become. The destruction of this enormous forest which once served lots of people is now in danger of extinction.Politics is playing centre stage as opposing sides are either against the forceful eviction of the illegal settlers and those that support the eviction.Centrestage is whether these people should be compensated or not.Meanwhile as all this is taking place illegal logging and burning of charcoal is still going on.We are all hoping for some sanity to prevail so that we can save the numerous catchment areas that provide water to lots of peolpe and to the great Lake Nakuru which is continuing to dry up.Our flamingoes are also getting the heat of this thorny issue. As a group of students who wish to save the climate ,we are really for the Mau to be saved to save our planet from these harsh climatic changes brought about by the wanton destruction of Mau Forest.
2a:Peter:Cimate change has been mentioned in dealing with climate change and food security. This is mainly due to the fact that we rely heavily on agriculture and if this is not secured soon then we shall have a starving nation.
b:The proposal was that a stop had to be put to the rising number of people taking in the forests. Many people are now living in areas which were once forests and there is now a lot of cutting down of trees and charcoal burning thus affecting many rivers which are depended by the population. All these people were to be given alternative land to resettle and do their farming.
c:The priority is somehow minimal because alot of it is because of politics.None of our leaders would like to evict the said communities because of fears in losing their confidence.
d:The headline that really impressed me most was THE CLIMATE CHANGE ADAPTATION IN AFRICA because it shows how serious this problem is and it is not only a one country issue but an issue to be tackled by Africa as a whole. Also that it is a step fprward to make Africa rise up and not wait for anybody to come and do for them what they can do.
e:A headline I would give an article on climate change would be CLIMATE RISK MANAGEMENT
- 03. The topic of climate change arouses a number of strong emotions in people.
- Our Answer: a:the feelings on anger make me feel insecure and scared because this shows that finally there is going to be great danger for the whole world, responsibilty makes me feel that no one wants to take responsibilty but the blame is pointing fingers, hope brings forth determination that if we can manage the climate change problem then there is going to be good things ahead, indifference brings forth fear because if we do not show that we care we are all going to be in alot of danger.
b:The emotion strongly felt is love and responsibilty for the universe because this is where we live and we also expect others to live in many years to come.
