The questions we asked

01. Question 1
Our Question: If you could choose anyone in the world to be your special climate hero or role model, who would it be?
02. Question 2
Our Question: Magic Johnson said: “I believe in the power of heroes. What is a hero? There are as many different answers to that question as there are people in the world, and that’s a good thing: we need different kinds of role models for different kinds of people. I personally think a hero is a leader who has a positive impact on people. A hero is someone who acts and through those actions changes the world.” – Tell me your definition of a hero.
03. Question 3
Our Question: A group of students thought it would be great to collect portraits of climate heros from all over the world. That’s what they say: “If we show people that if those local climate heros can make the effort, then anybody can. Let them see that what they are doing is rapidly becoming the norm, not the exception. Your climate heros don’t need to be famous. We’d like to show people just like you and me – with the little difference that they care. The goal is to realize an impressive exhibition of portraits from all over the world.” a) What are the most important things people in your country need to change in order to become climate heros? b) Some participants of this projects don’t like the word “hero”. Which other words could we use instead?

The answers we gave

01. Question 1
Our Answer: We think there are a lot of unknown climate heroes. Here are two different examples, we like: Our first climate hero is Christian Kroll. He invented an alternative search engine to Google, called Ecosia.org. Every time you enter a search word they donate money for saving rainforest. Each click saves 2m2 of rainforest. At the bottom of the page you can see how much you’ve already saved and how much was saved by all users. At the moment they’ve saved more than 35’000’000m2. Our second climate hero is Öff Öff. He’s a German man who lives in the nature. He lives on what the nature gives him. He has no technical and polluting equipments.
02. Question 2
Our Answer: Everyone can be a hero in his or her very own way. Little things can bring big changes, and every person who fights for his conviction and who has the will to change his habits to save the world is a hero. In the case of climate, one single hero doesn't have a huge effect, that's why we need many of these "little heros" to make a big change. In our times we have two kinds of heros, the ones who plead their whole lifes to show others, what to do to save our world and the others who at least try to live a environmentally friendly life.
03. Question 3
Our Answer: a) The most important things are: - use public transport instead of cars - economical use of natural resources - protect / build nature reserves - less comuting by plane (example: Zürich - London) - try to keep your working place near your home b) Other possible words would be "activist", "protector", "greenhouse gas killer", "chiller" or "cooler".
